In Everyday Me, readers celebrate all the little wonders of childhood through fourteen separate poems and vibrant, hand-painted images that capture the joy and everyday magic in things like stomping in puddles, building forts, and swimming. The poems use the child's perspective to bring to life the special fascination children have with nature and the type of play that takes them outdoors and gets them to use their creativity and imagination. Through every page, Everyday Me provides nostalgia for parents who grew up in simpler times, gives a voice to children to celebrate their interests, big and small, and encourages parents and kids alike to get outside and explore.

In Everyday We: Friendships, readers are taken to what seems like an ideal world through sixteen poems and bright, hand-painted illustrations that celebrate all of the joys of connecting with friends as a child. By embodying the child's voice and perspective in the writing, the closeness, warm colours, and big feelings of the different relationships shine golden bright. Every child will see something they connect with, whether it is loud and rambunctious play or quiet collaboration, riding a bike and playing on a playground or painting and baking. With simple, yet vivid language and a focus on outdoor play, imagination, and the natural world, the book makes love for each other and love for the unplugged joys of childhood accessible to even very small readers.

There are a few reasons why I think this book is important. Firstly, there is a really good mix of activities represented across the book's sixteen poems. Every child will see something they connect with, whether it is riding a bike and playing on a playground, or painting and baking. Dallan still focuses on outdoor play and the natural world more than anything, with a sprinkling of imaginative play thrown in. These are the scenes you want your children to grow up seeing, rather than depictions of playing video games and watching television. It is as if the book is saying: "Hey! Look how fun this is! Don't you want to try this with your friends, too?" Or: "When you are playing with your friends down by the river and in the park, that is special. Special enough to be in a book! Keep it up!
